Some update news...

PDFPrintE-mail

The new version of "DesktopContent for Mambo" is coming along great.  Here is a list of some of the new features:

  • CORE:  WYSIWYG HTML editor to create the content.  This allows you to create the content and at the same time see how it will be displayed on the site.
  • CHANGE:  Support for up to 4 (four) sites.
  • CORE:  Automatic insert of comment tags for sites that have the AkoComment 2.0 component installed.
  • BUGFIX:  No longer causes problems with frontpage items when content is added via the software and the Mambo interface.
  • BUGFIX:  Notification of posting errors, general errors, and when posting has been successfull.

Some program limitations have been identified as well.  If your webhost does not support "remote database connections" this program will not function.  "DesktopContent for Mambo" works by directly editing the mySQL tables that Mambo uses, and creating a content item and linking that item for frontpage display.  If the host does not support the remote connections the software cannot create a connection with the database and will fail to post any content.

Within a few days I hope to post the new versions for both Windows and OS X.

DesktopContent for Mambo

PDFPrintE-mail

DesktopContent for Mambo is a simple program to allow frontpage content updates from the desktop. It's a small java program that can save you the time of opening a web browser, logging in, and creating a new news item. Now you can do all that via a small program quickly and easily. The program makes direct updates to the mySQL tables that the Mambo site is based on. The settings screen allows you to input the database settings that Mambo uses to make the same updates.

Version: 0.10 beta (8 August 2005)

Note: Currently only the Mac OS X version has been posted. It has been tested on Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.2.

Requires:

Installation:

  1. First install the appropriate JRE 5.0 for your system following the directions from Sun.
  2. Download the MySQL Connector/J and extract the file.
  3. Copy the "mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga-bin.jar" file from the extraction directory and place it into the "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\lib\ext" or appropriate folder on your system. NOTE: Apple users need to place that same file into the "/System/Library/Java/Extensions/" folder.
  4. After all the steps above have been completed, double clicking the DesktopContent.jar should launch the program.  NOTE:  Apple users need to change the Java preferences and make the Java JRE 5.0 the first environment.  This can be changed in the "/System/Applications/Utilities/Java/" folder.

DesktopContent for Mambo is now working well...

PDFPrintE-mail

Posted via the software. Finally got the DesktopContent for Mambo program working correctly. Had some issues with safe database closures, but those seem to have been resolved. I will post the files for download after I have completed some additional testing, and cleaned up the interface.

Projects still in progress...

PDFPrintE-mail

Still working to get the Sky** Bulk Transfer Control program into .NET 1.1, basically having to rewrite the program.

Also working on a Java program to allow content updates to the MamboOS CMS via the desktop without having to login to the website.  I have a very basic working application at this point but am working to add a GUI and more features in.  Also trying to ensure that it will be cross platform between Microsoft Windows XP and Apple OSX Tiger.

Recompile of Sky** Bulk Transfer Control in .NET 1.1

PDFPrintE-mail

Currently trying to recompile the Sky** Bulk Transfer Control software to work in the normal .NET 1.1 version instead of the beta.  Hopefully this will reduce the amount of extra software that everyone needs to get this installed and running.  I will post an update when it's been completed or utter failure.

Skype naming infringment...

PDFPrintE-mail

Just came across this information on the Skype Developer Blog:

”2.4 You will not distribute the Application online through website(s) that is/are in any way similar to the Skype Website or use the Skype’s trademarks or words describing Skype’s products or services as the registered URL for website(s).”

So from that, it's time to find a new name for my Sky** Bulk Transfer Control program.
Any idea's?
